The Farm

The beautiful setting of the Old Mac Daddy Luxury Trailer Hotel is on a piece of land owned by the Vuki Trust. The name Vuki is a Sesotho word meaning, to stand up. The use of the word in Sotho however implies "Arise, be awake. Go and do something for yourself", and with reason…

The Vuki Trust is an historic and highly successful BEE ownership project that was formed between local workers in the area during a period in which a farm was under their administration. The workers rallied together and obtained the financing to buy the farm, finally in 2005.

Today Vuki Farms is a Fair Trade Accredited agricultural concern that is also a successful producer apples, pears and grapes.

It is little known that the Grabouw area has the Western Cape’s highest unemployment statistic (owing to the seasonal nature of the agricultural work). It is our pleasure and priviledge to contribute to the ongoing upliftment of the communities in this region through the creation of jobs and skills development.

Farming looks mighty easy when your plow is a pencil, and you're a thousand miles from the corn field.
